Onto two strands of smooth Sunstone beads, I attached a stunning, large circular pendant of brown and beige snowflake Obsidian. Obsidian is a natural volcanic glass (see information further down).
The pendant is attached to two strands of peach coloured Sunstone with a bead cap framed larger bead in the middle. The two strands of Sunstone connect to an elongate trace chain which closes with a secure lobster claw clasp. I attached a peach moonstone dangle next to the clasp.
- The Snowflake Obsidian measures 3.5cm in diameter, the smaller Sunstone beads are 4mm in size.
- Total length of the necklace is 47cm, but the clasp can be attached at different points on the chain.
- All metal is solid brass which has been sealed with a protective, non-toxic jewellery lacquer to keep it from early tarnishing.
Obsidian is a natural glass. It is formed from volcanic lava that cooled too quickly for significant crystallization to occur. It is amorphous with no cleavage. Obsidian is usually black, but other colors do occur. If internal bubbles of crystals are visible, the effect is called a 'snowflake' effect.
